I’m Victor Medina, a 25 year old boxer born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. I started boxing because a champion from my hometown (Alex el “Nene” Sanchez) came to school to talk to us about the benefits of being an athlete and when he finished his speech, I saw him putting away his champion belt in a case. I asked if I could hold it and told him that I really wanted one too. He responded that I need to work hard for it and invited me to train at his gym. I fell in love with the sport as soon as I stepped foot in that gym I knew I had found my passion.

I moved to the US when I was 16 and met my first real trainer, Jose “Papo” Colon, who is a 2022 CT Boxing Hall of Fame member. He became my mentor, friend and father-figure. He saw something in me and took me under his wing. I lived with him for 6 years and would spend all day watching how he trained me and the other boxers and learned as much as I could. Everything I know about boxing is because of him.

3 years ago, I decided to move to Norwalk and keep following my dream of being a boxer and training people as well. Boxing brings me so much joy and I hope to continue following my passion and helping kids and young adults for the rest of my life.
